7th Annual NJ Coders Day: A Carnival of Coding Is a huge success!

The Most Amazing Coders Day Ever:
On October 29, 2011, over 300 attendees, close to 30 exhibitors, and our fabulous speakers joined forces to create an event that was educational,
fun, and unique!
Many thanks to our fabulous speakers:
Rhonda Buckholtz, who took the fear out of ICD-10!
Dr. Aditya Mehra, who made interventional cardiology interesting!
John Kennedy, who spoke of working together to eliminate fraud and abuse!
Jeanne Yoder, who took the “yuck” out of the heebie jeebies!
Nadinia Davis, who turned the revenue cycle around!
Thanks to Our Gold Sponsors:

America, Mary Kay Cosmetics, NJHA, NJPR, Passaic Community College, Raritan Valley Community College, Robert Half/Office Team Group,
Rose’s Fund, Silpada, Sparano Face and Nasal Institute, and TD Bank
The epitome of the day was the Carnival of Coding Room, where attendees could bet on Wheel of Coding with ICD-9 Codes; play Quack-a-Code with
ICD-10 Codes; learn anatomy with a 7-foot Operation Game; play “Pin the Tail on the Sacrum” with Stan, the 3-dimensional man and his little
sister, Jan; play Roll-a-Code to come up with a valid ICD-9 or CPT code, and play Modifier Bingo! The Carnival Room was filled with “"Carny"
music, a huge lollipop tree, and all the attendees could help themselves to a bag of "Goldfish". . . just like a real carnival!
The incredible Volunteers deserve a huge thanks for their diligence and commitment in pulling off this Carnival Extravaganza!
The Monmouth Chapter also awarded 2 special awards: The Marie Lassen Unsung Hero Award, which was presented to Felecia Bernstein, a
founding member of the Chapter who has created Rose’s Fund for Animals and has contributed greatly to the community. The second award
was the Marie Lassen Continuing Education Scholarship, which was presented to Joan Habinowski. Marie Lassen, who was a very active
contributor to the Monmouth Chapter, passed away just over a year ago, and the Chapter will continue to honor her memory. This year,
4 members of the Lassen Family were in attendance for the presentation of these awards.
Mark your calendars for October 27, 2012 for our 8th Annual NJ Coders Day: Coding into the Future!
See how our "little" chapter has grown! The above photo is just a portion of the audience at our April meeting.
May Mania!!!
Thank you to Dr. Manish Gopal and Dr. Dolores Loew for their Excellent Presentations at May Mania
Monmouth-Ocean Hosts Largest NJ Coders’ Day Ever!

The 6th Annual NJ Coders’ Day, held on October 30th, was the conference of MORE: more attendees than ever before, almost 300; more exhibitors than ever before, 25, including 7 Gold Sponsors; and more fun than ever before, as our Committee and some attendees dressed in Halloween costumes to support the theme of "Don’t Let Coding Issues Haunt You!" Attendees even participated in such games as "Guess the Number of Candy Corn in the jar" to win Enzo, the Scarecrow!
The fabulous speakers included Janice Jacobs, CPA, CPC, CCS, who presented her Radiation Oncology Coding Update. Alison Ankiewicz, MS, PT, DPT, from Above All Physical Therapy, gave the audience a comprehensive overview on the pelvic floor anatomy, as well as ways that physical therapy can be utilized to treat disease symptoms. Next up was Alex Binder, MBA, of Visiting Physician Services, who spoke on dignified ways for End of Life Care. Following was Bob Conroy, JD, MPA, MPH, who entertained the crowd with Legal Updates, or "More Tales from the Crypt". Following lunch, our very own Claire Bartkewicz, CPC-H, member AAPCCA Board of Directors, Region 2, updated the audience on AAPC News.
The last two speakers, Barbara Manger, MPA, RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA, gave the attendees a look at ICD-10; and Edmund Manger, MAS, RPh, spoke about Advances in Cancer Chemotherapy.

The one solemn moment came at the presentation of the Marie Lassen Memorial Award, titled the Unsung Hero. Marie, who was a former officer and an active member of our chapter passed away earlier this year. The award was presented to Lynda Tebbs, also a former officer, who does so much for the chapter without receiving recognition. It was a moment that touched all, even those who had not had the pleasure of knowing Marie.
We thank our Committee, our Speakers, our Exhibitors and Sponsors, who worked together to make the 6th Annual NJ Coders’ Day better than ever!
Please join us next year, on October 29, 2011, for our 7th Annual NJ Coders’ Day at Branches, in West Long Branch!
